Tree projects in Bredgar
Bredgar Parish Council
Bredgar Parish Council have implemented a number of small projects recently aimed at keeping Bredgar village looking at its best.
Last year KCC cut down a Purple Leaved Plum tree (Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra') at the Wrens Road, Gore Road and Silver Street junction. This was done because the old tree was showing signs of disease. This tree was quite prominent when entering Bredgar from Wrens Road and consequently a loss to the village. Our KCC Councilor Andrew Bowles kindly agreed to fund £300 for a replacement tree from his KCC Members Grant. The new tree was bought and planted by Kent Highways in February.
The tree cost less than the £300 expected and the remaining funds were used to purchase a Flowering Cherry tree (Prunus Amanogawa), Wiegela and Philadelphus shrubs. The tree replacing a broken tree stump in Travers Gardens and the shrubs planted in Jubilee Gardens.
In addition, to these purchases Councillor Bowles has also supported our Parish by funding £1400 of maintenance work to the Wrens Road boundary of the Recreation Ground. Following the recent removal of the old container, the overgrown thicket behind it has been removed and the hedge given a much needed trim.
Last Thursday, whilst visting Bredgar on another matter, Councillor Bowles and BPC Chair Penny Twaites took the opportunity to view the new trees and shrubs.
